Today I woke up at 6:45 AM to go to school for the first day! Breakfast was easier today - although I made my coffee WAY too strong haha! I was jittery all day! I packed all my books up in my bag and decided not to bring the ukulele today - but maybe tomorrow :)

Vilma took me to school today - we went on the Metro and it was so packed of people! We were all squashed together. You are supposed to hold on to your purse and belongings really carefully so no one steals your stuff on the subway.

We got off at our stop and met all the other kids from my program at the bus stop. We were all really happy to see each other again and we got to share stories about our host families together! We all had experienced similar things - lots of food, tons of misunderstandings, and we all still had similar questions about everything! We took bus selfies! Left to right: Megan, me, Colin, Mason.

When we got to school (school is at the hotel for now) we separated into classes - I’m in Spanish One and my teacher is Catalina. My classmates are Julia, Colin, Logan, and Roustam. They have all had at least three years of Spanish already! I am really far behind them, but the teacher and students are super patient with me and are always helping me out. I really want to study a lot so I can catch up to the rest of the class! :)

Class was craaaazy at first (all in Spanish of course), but I after about an hour I started catching on to certain words and phrases and getting the gist of things. I think all my time at German immersion camp really taught me how to better understand people even if I don’t speak their language. I’m really proud of how much I understood! I even managed to write a 250 word essay in Spanish at the end of class as the diagnostic exam! There were lots of holes in my writing where I just wrote blanks and the English words underneath, but I’m still super happy with it!

After class we headed home and Sydney, Deanna and I met up at the Metro station near mi casa and we went to the mall! The mall is absolutely giant - about 7 stories!!!

We went to a Peruvian restaurant and had some AMAZING food! I had Pasta y pescado and some mango/limón/piña judo, and Sydney had some lasaña.

We dropped off Deanna at the Metro because she had to go home, and then Sydney and I went to my house to meet Ximena and Gala (our poodle!). We watched a little bit of a novella (Spanish drama) with Ximena and Sydney played with Gala for a bit. By 7 PM it was dark outside, so I walked back to the Metro with Sydney. It’s not too far from mi casa which is super nice! For dinner I wasn’t super hungry but we had some fried papa (potato) slices, ketchup, salmón, and a little salad. Here’s la amigas from left to right: Photobomber, Sydney, Deanna, y me!

Well, that’s all for tonight! I jumped in my friend’s voice chat on Twitch for a bit while he streamed Overwatch which was nice. Also trying to find the gaming community in Santiago - I’m hoping to go to a tournament while I’m here. Apparently there’s a gaming bar around here - I’ll have to check it out soon.

Hasta Mañana!

Love,
